Taking a walk up to the look out at Bowentown heads is worth the trip. The view is something else with views across to Matakana Island and down to Mt Maunganui as well as Motiti Island. It is also the start of the Tauranga Harbour stretching all the way down to Tauranga.

Picnic at Homunga Bay

Get Willem and Carla to make you up a picnic and wander your way down to Homunga Bay and while the day away relaxing on the beach. Take a good book plus some sunscreen plus a bottle of your favourite tipple with a couple of glasses to go with the picnic.

Homunga to Waihi Beach walk

There are two absolutely stunning white-sand bays that can be accessed via walking tracks - Homunga and Orokawa. The best way to walk the trail is probably starting at the Northern end of the walk. Get dropped at the top of Ngatitangata Road and start the walk down to Homunga Bay.

Hauraki Rail Trail

The Hauraki Rail Trail is the easiest riding trail in New Zealand and is accessible from Waihi. In Waihi itself you can hire a bike and get maps as well as catch the train to Waikino station and there you can commence your cycle of the rail trail. Alternatively start at the Waihi train station.

Walk in the Karangahake Gorge

Walks in the Karangahake Gorge can take as little or as long as you like. The windows walk takes approximately half an hour but you can walk for up to 4 or 5 hours should you wish through the stunning Karangahake Gorge taking in gold mining history from the late 1800's.

Walk to Orakawa Bay

The walk from Waihi Beach to Orakawa Bay from Waihi Beach takes anything from 35 - 45 minutes one way depending on your fitness level. Its a coastal bush walk taking in the views out to Mayor Island as you walk your way to Orakawa Bay and back.
